There’s nothing I love more in this world than coffee and books. If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I’m absolute Starbucks TRASH. I go there every morning on my way to uni, pick up my coffee and my blueberry bagel, and sit down to enjoy a few chapters before I head to class. It’s my favourite part of the day, ngl.
Yeah, I know loving Starbucks makes me a basic bitch, but hey, I’m leaning into that. Leave me in peace to sip on my light soy caramel macchiato while telling you about how I’m a Scorpio and that I’m still not over how Katniss chose Peeta and not Gale. Starbucks just soothes my soul, okay?
So today I thought I’d pair my love of coffee and YA together to recommend some upcoming releases you should read based on your Starbucks order! Whether you’re more of an iced latte gal or if you prefer your drinks a little more Extra™️, I’ve got the perfect book for you. ENJOY!
Iced latte | Wayward Son
Drinking iced coffee all year round is something we do a lot in the queer community. And yeah, I can definitely attest to that. So I just had to pair one of our most anticipated m/m YA books of 2019 with THE drink of gay culture. It feels like it’s been decades since Carry On, and I know the whole internet is going to have a meltdown the day Wayward Son is released. I CAN’T WAIT. Seriously, if you haven’t read Carry On yet, make sure you pick it up before the release of the sequel! If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, comedic urban fantasy boarding school stories, and the hate-to-love trope, you absolutely have to pick it up.
Americano | There Will Come a Darkness
I like my coffee like I like my nights: dark, endless, and impossible to sleep through. And nothing says DARK and DEATH like an Americano—which are two things we’re promised in There Will Come a Darkness. This is a book about the prophesied destruction of the world and a group of five people who have to band together, and I’m here for it. I’m totally going to be stocking up on Americanos so I can sip on them all night and devour this thrilling new novel in one sitting. AND LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS COVER. That’s just begging to be featured on the ‘gram.
Iced Green Tea Latte | Frankly in Love
I’m honestly so excited to finally read this gorgeous new YA novel. So what better a drink to pair it with than an iced green tea latte! Not only does the gorgeous green colour of one of our favourite Starbucks drink perfectly match the cover of Frankly in Love, but it’s also as sweet as this book promises to be. This novel is about family expectations, fake dating, and what it means to be in love. Excuse me while I SWOON. So sit down with this exciting new release and devour it while sipping on your iced green tea latte!
Caramel Macchiato | Loki: Where Mischief Lies
Loki: The God of Mischief. He’s a bit cheeky and he high-key wants to take over the world, and honestly I support that. WE STAN A SLYTHERIN ANTIHERO. Like a caramel macchiato, Loki can be a little bit extra at times, but beneath that tough, knife-wielding exterior, he’s pretty sweet on the inside. I absolutely LOVED Loki in Thor Ragnarok in particular, so I’m really excited to see what kind of story Mackenzi Lee will give him in this novel! I’m sure it’s going to be brilliant. This one’s definitely going to be a must-read for all Marvel fans!
Nitro Brew | The Beautiful
Vampires? You might think they’re nothing new, but then again, you might think the same thing about cold coffee. WELL, YOU’D BE WRONG. Both this spectacular new novel and the nitro brew have reinvented their categories to deliver a new twist on two old favourites. This book is about a city ruled by the dead, a glitzy underworld, and unsolved murders. SIGN ME THE HECK UP! You definitely have to get your hands on a copy of The Beautiful as soon as it’s released, and you should grab yourself a nitro brew while you’re at it as well. Edward Cullen would totally agree with me.
Signature Hot Chocolate | Sick Kids in Love
I’m so pumped for this upcoming release! Quality chronic illness representation? Where the protagonists don’t die? This feels like the book we’ve all been waiting for. And even though our main character seems pretty adamant on not dating from the blurb… well, we all know how that’s going to turn out. And I’m sure it will be ADORABLE. If anything from Starbucks gives me that same warm, gooey feeling that I hope Sick Kids in Love will also provide, it’s their signature hot chocolate.
Java Chip Frappuccino | She’s the Worst
I don’t know about you, but a java chip frappuccino is my go-to drink when I’m on vacation or out exploring new places. There’s just something so fun and sweet about it—and those are exactly the type of vibes that I’m getting from She’s the Worst. It’s a cute new contemporary that’s about a pact, a day of exploring L.A., and tricky family relationships. It’s also being compared to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, so I know I’m going to adore it. And why wouldn’t I, when java chip frappuccinos are one of my ultimate go-to Starbucks drinks!
Pumpkin Spice Latte | Into the Crooked Place
As the Halloween season is almost upon us once again, it’s that time of the year again where it’s socially acceptable to order fall-themed Starbucks drinks, watch horror movies each night, and quote that it’s freaking bats vine 24/7. But it’s also the perfect time to start planning your October TBR and adding some new creepy books to your shelf! Into the Crooked Place is the perfect upcoming release for the spooky season. It’s the first book in a gritty new fantasy series by Alexandra Christo, and it’s about magic, revenge, and crime. If that’s not a Halloween book, I don’t know what is!
What’s your go-to Starbucks order? Are you looking forward to reading any of the books that I’ve mentioned? Have you already had the chance to read any of them? I’d love to know!
