I can’t believe how many fantastic books I’ve read already this month! There were some older releases that I hadn’t got around to reading yet, some upcoming novels I can’t wait to scream about, and even a January release or two! But can someone pleeeeease tell time to slow down a little so I can get through my TBR? I’M DYING HERE.

But I thought it was about time I shared my thoughts from some of the books I’ve read recently with all of you! THAT MEANS MINI REVIEWS! It feels like forever I’ve done some mini reviews – how fun are they?! So I hope you enjoy finding out what I thought of four of the books I read this month!

Undead Girl Gang

WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS MASTERPIECE? Oh my goodness, it was just perfect in every way. I was promised witches and friendship and haphazardly raising the dead, but I got so much more than that. I fell in love with every single one of the characters, laughed out loud, and had my heart broken all in one sitting. IT WAS INCREDIBLE.

Seriously, if you have been on the fence about this one, here’s your sign to go ahead and pick up a copy. You won’t regret it. Plus it has a super diverse cast with heaps of great representation, which is always amazing to see in YA! I’m already excited to read whatever Lily Anderson writes next.

Five Feet Apart

I went into this book with the lowest of the low expectations — sorry! It’s just hard not to be sceptical when it’s released so close to the movie release date, stars one of the biggest actors from Riverdale, and is being dubbed the next The Fault in Our Stars. You could see why I might have had my reservations.

But… I actually really enjoyed it! It wasn’t the best written book and it was a little cheesy in parts, but I adored the relationships between the characters and loved the direction the story went in. I already know I’m going to cry a small river at the cinema when I see it on the big screen. SOMEONE HOLD ME.

This is What Happy Looks Like

AHH THIS WAS SO CUTE! Sometimes I just feel like an adorable, fun romance, you know? A character-driven contemporary with relatively low stakes that I can trash-read while eating chocolate curled up in bed. And if you know me at all, you know I always mean trashy in a good way. Because this book was exactly what I needed!

Not only is it set in a small coastal town (YAS) and it has a bit of the “anonymous crush” trope, the love interest is a MOVIE STAR. *CUE SWOONING*. I loved the summer vibes and the adorable romance (and most of all, the mentions of the pig). HEART EYES FOR DAYS.

4 Stars

The Graveyard Book

I’M SO SORRY. I feel like I’ve failed the reading community by waiting 20 years to read my first Neil Gaiman book. BUT IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. I’d heard good things about The Graveyard Book, but I didn’t know how much I’d fall in love with Neil’s writing style and the characters and the overall ambience of this novel until I devoured it.

He did write one of my favourite Doctor Who episodes, so I should have known I’d love it, but WOW. I NEED TO GIVE BOD A HUG, PLEASE AND THANK YOU. What an adorable little munchkin! I loved reading about him growing up in the graveyard and getting to know his makeshift ghost family, then venture out into the world of the living. IT WAS JUST SO WHOLESOME. I’m already looking forward to reading my next Neil Gaiman book!

Let's Talk

Have you read any of the books I’ve reviewed? What’s been your favourite read of the month so far? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
