Silver Shadows – book review

Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead

Silver Shadows is the fifth mind-blowing instalment in the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead.

In the aftermath of the event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But they have to survive first.

Trapped and isolated from everyone she knows, Sydney’s life becomes a daily struggle to hold onto who she is and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian desperately clings to the hope that Sydney can be found again, but the battle becomes daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize control of him. As their worst fears suddenly a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian must face their darkest hour yet…

I can’t even begin to express how much I loved reading this book. Everything about it was perfect. I love this series so much. I’m proud to say that I love it even more than the Vampire Academy series, which was also stunning. But one of my favourite couples in all of book-history are the main characters in this series – Sydney and Adrian. Another thing I really love about this series is the plot. It just really draws you in and I’ve never been bored in one of these books. Lots of things are always going on, but at the same time, the books never seem overcrowded. The pacing is always perfect, as with this book. After finishing The Fiery Heart when it was released last year, I’ve had to wait almost 365 days until I found out what happens in the next instalment. The Fiery Heart left us on such a massive cliff-hanger that I’m surprised I managed to not die of impatience! But I must admit, Silver Shadows was well worth the wait. I was again drawn in from the very beginning and my attention was held for the entirety of the book. It was absolutely spectacular. I adored every second of reading it.
To say this book was emotional would be a complete understatement. This definitely isn’t a light and easy read. It’s really emotional. We have Adrian’s self-destructive phase and Sydney being tortured and this was really hard to read about because I love both these characters so much. I constantly feared for these characters. They meant so much to me in this series and I knew I would be absolutely devastated if anything colossal happened to them. But these characters went through so much in this book. I’m so proud of how Sydney and Adrian handled everything. Especially Sydney. Her determination and courage really got her through the toughest of situations. She was so brave and willing to help anyone in any way she could. I loved reading the chapters alternating between Sydney and Adrian’s point of views. In the beginning, I always wanted to be reading from Sydney’s point of view because there seemed to be such bigger things at risk for her. However, I loved reading from both of their point of views once I got properly into the different lives they were living.
I’m so unbelievably happy with how this book turned out. I loved everything about it. Again, the characters were brilliant and shining. The writing was absolutely amazing. I could feel everything that was going on so clearly and I really felt like I was there. I cannot believe the ending though, and I’m already counting down the days until the next book is released! I’d give Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead a score of 10 out of 10. If you haven’t read this book or this series, I highly recommend it!
