Demonglass – book review

Demonglass-Rachel Hawkins

Demonglass is the second thrilling book in the Hex Hall series, written by Rachel Hawkins.

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. She was just coming to terms with the fact that she will never live a normal human life. The whole reason Sophie was sent to Hex Hall in the first place was because she cast a spell that attracted too much human attention. But then Sophie’s world completely turned upside down…

Firstly, Sophie found out her family secret. Then she found out that her crush, Archer Cross, was an agent of The Eye, a group dedicated to wiping out all magical people and creatures. But then Sophie learnt the most shocking truth of all… She found out she wasn’t a witch. Sophie is in fact a demon. One of two in the world – the other is her father. Sophie’s powers are dangerous and threaten the lives of everyone she loves. This is why Sophie makes the decision to travel to London for the Removal. Such a procedure will either destroy her powers for good – or kill her.

Shocking discoveries, dark secrets and unforgivable actions aren’t all that await her in England. The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. In a world where anyone could be your enemy, who can Sophie trust?

I really liked reading Demonglass. Firstly, I loved how we finally got to see the world outside the campus of Hecate. I felt like a really understood the depths of the world of witches and warlocks, as well as their enemies. We got introduced to a lot of new characters. I loved meeting Sophie’s dad and now I understand more about the history of their family. Like the first book, there were many funny moments in this book. I found that Hex Hall was a little predictable in places, but when I read Demonglass, I could never guess what was going to be on the next page. Lots of things in this book surprised me and I loved finding secrets that I’ve been waiting to find out. There was a lot more about Cal in this book. When I got to know Cal more, I fell in love with him. Although I loved Archer as well, I couldn’t help but think how perfect and simple Sophie being with Cal would be. I enjoyed seeing Sophie and Cal together and I felt they were right for each other. But that just complicated my love for Archer. Although what Archer did in Hex Hall was dreadful, I always wanted there to be some sort of explanation because I still really cared for him. So, classic love-triangle. However, I thought Rachel Hawkins handled the love-triangle really well. If I were Sophie, I honestly couldn’t choose which guy to be with. As well as Sophie having boy dilemmas, her life couldn’t have been any more action-packed. Demonglass was exciting and fast-paced. There was never a boring moment and I enjoyed every minute of reading it. I really liked reading Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins and I’d give it a score of 8.5 out of 10. If you haven’t had a chance to read the Hex Hall series yet, I definitely recommend it!

  1. I love this book 🙂 The whole series actually, I am not a fan of Archer, much prefer Cal, (in love just a little). Hope you enjoy the third book and looking forward to reading your review.

    • I’m happy to hear that you also love this series! I just finished reading the third book today and I’ll be posting a review of it soon. I completely loved the third book and, I must admit, I love Cal more than Archer too! 🙂
