The Golden Lily is the second amazing book in the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead.
Sydney Sage has always dreamt of going to collage and having a normal life. But Sydney’s life is far from normal. Being an Alchemist, Sydney’s job is to protect the secrecy of the vampire world from humans. Now, Sydney is in a private human school in Palm Springs posing the sister of the Moroi Princess, Jill Dragomir. Jill’s life is in danger from vampire assassins who want to overthrow the Moroi government and therefore create civil war.
Surprisingly, Sydney finds herself growing closer to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian. But this goes against everything the Alchemists have ever told her: to not trust or befriend evil, unnatural creatures of the night. But the more time Sydney spends with those vampires, the more she begins to question the Alchemists and their beliefs.
To make matters even more difficult, one of Sydney’s teachers is making Sydney wield magic, which is in every way wrong to Sydney. But could it be for Sydney’s own good? Will the time come when her friends can’t defend her and she’ll need to take matters into her own hands? Equally overwhelming is her new romance with Brayden. Brayden is a cute, brainy guy who seems to match Sydney in every way. Yet, as perfect as Brayden seems, Sydney finds herself falling for someone else. Someone forbidden… So should Sydney trust the Alchemists, or her heart?
I absolutely, positively loved reading The Golden Lily. I after reading the first two books in the series, I feel so much more connected to the characters than I did after just reading the first book. Like with Bloodlines, I loved reading about Sydney Sage. Sydney is just such a likeable character. She’s intelligent, logical, classy, funny at times and just utterly brilliant. I think those things about her make her a really great character. I liked learning more about her and watching her beliefs about the Alchemists and the vampires’ change throughout the book. I especially loved seeing her and Adrian connect with each other. At the beginning of this series, I thought that Adrian and Sydney were complete opposites and couldn’t be together. Now I feel like they would be great together because they both help each other and are always there for one another. And Adrian. Wow. I completely love Adrian. Adrian understands Sydney the way that no one else does. I know that no matter what happens, he’ll always be there for Sydney. Seriously. They are destined to be together. I wish Sydney would just let go of all her worries and stress about what the Alchemists would do to her and just be with Adrian! That would make her and Adrian just so happy! But I guess I can understand why she wouldn’t want to risk it with the Alchemists. I really can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! I loved reading The Golden Lily be Richelle Mead and I’d give it a score of 9 out of 10. If you haven’t read this series or the Vampire Academy series, reading them is a must!
