The Originals – book review

the originals

The Originals is an enchanting new story from Cat Patrick, the author of Forgotten and Revived.

Lizzie, Ella and Betsey grew up as triplets. But in fact, they are closer than that. They’re clones…

Hiding from the government and forever running from suspicious eyes, these three girls must learn to live as one person. The girl they all pretend to be is Elizabeth Best.

Lizzie, Ella and Betsey go to school in turns, all to appear to be the one and only Elizabeth. They have been doing this for most of their lives. But then Lizzie meets Sean Kelly. Lizzie begins to realize that she isn’t just a clone. She’s an individual with unique dreams and desires.

But for Lizzie to be able to love someone, she must become her own person.

I found this book one of the best I’ve ever read. Cat Patrick’s books just keep getting better and better! All the characters in this book were very strong each had their own personality. In particular Lizzie, Ella and Betsey had vividly different personalities, despite them being clones. I loved how I always wanted to read on and there was never a dull moment in the entire book. It was also very thought-provoking. It made me think, what if there are really human clones living in the world like this? Even if there aren’t human clones now, this stuff isn’t that far into our future…  I found Sean a really amazing character. When he learnt about Lizzie’s secret, he helped her sort out her tangled life and was always there to support her. Cat Patrick manages to weave science, romance and the importance of being different all into one incredible book. I became really involved in this novel and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading it. I’d give The Originals by Cat Patrick a score of 9 out of 10. Loved it!
