Beautiful Redemption – book review

Beautiful Redemption is the fourth and last book in the Beautiful Creatures series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Ethan Wate would never have guessed that the small town of Gatlin, that he was so sure of travelling away from a few years ago, would become the one place in the world he couldn’t comprehend leaving. He never thought that he’d meet the girl of his dreams (literally) and for her to love him back. He never would have dreamt that this girl could reveal a secret to him that would turn his life upside down. And of course, he never would have believed that he’d be forced to leave everything and everyone he loved behind.

So when Ethan wakes up after the chilling Eighteenth Moon, his one and only goal is to find his way back to Gatlin, to his family and to Lena Duchannes… the girl he loves.

Lena and Ethan must try to communicate through their different worlds, desperately wanting to once again be reunited. They will both do anything to help each other, even risking lives and trusting old enemies. But will it be enough to bring Ethan back? Will someone have to be sacrificed to ensure Ethan’s safety?

Beautiful Redemption was undoubtedly different from the others in the series. The book was kind of split into three parts – it started off with Ethan’s point of view (which was how all the other books in the series are), but then, about a third of the way through, it changed to Lena’s point of view, then back to Ethan’s towards the end. As a reader, we’ve never read from Lena’s point of view before, so it was a completely new experience for me. I saw the difference between what Ethan and Lena called different people (eg. Macon vs. Uncle Macon) and I could understand the emotions that Lena was feeling all the time, rather than assuming from what Ethan interpreted from the weather and from Lena’s reactions. A part of this series that I really loved was how Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl wrote. Not only did I love how they explained clearly so I didn’t get lost, they also hid some of the details, which made me more interested and I couldn’t stop reading until I had found out what I wanted to know. I think that Beautiful Redemption was an amazing end to the Beautiful Creatures series. Admittedly, I liked it better in the series when Lena and Ethan were together, but of course that wasn’t possible for most of this book. I really liked Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and I’d give it a score of 8.5 out of 10.
